Blooming Joy Flower Farm: Finding My Joy in Flowers

1 a very glad feeling; happiness; great pleasure; delight 2 anything causing such a feeling 3 the expression or showing of such a feeling.

It brings me great joy to share the recent evolution of our farm — our farm name has changed from Flowerville Farm to Blooming Joy Flower Farm

I have felt this change coming for some time. You may have noticed me sprinkling the words “blooming joy” throughout our website and social media posts over the past few months and this quieter time has given us time to reflect on this past year and to visualize the future of our farm.

When we first tried to decide on a name for our flower farm business, we came to Flowerville Farm, a name that invoked an image of flowers everywhere, and we loved that. We still love that name, but it just doesn’t quite fit anymore.

Before starting to farm, I felt like something was missing — like I lacked purpose. I had spent my 20’s studying, traveling and living abroad, culminating in a B.S. in Wildlife, Fish & Conservation Biology, an M.S. in Biodiversity, Ecology & Evolution and a love for nature, languages, and learning about different cultures. I loved those years, but the one thing missing was someone to come home to.

That all changed in 2015 when I flew home from Germany for my best friend’s wedding and met Bryan. He brought me into his life and the lives of his boys, my bonus babies. I fell in love with them instantly. I had found a joy I hadn’t known before — motherhood.

Soon, thereafter, our son was born and three years later, our daughter. For an achiever personality like myself, those early years of motherhood were exceptionally hard. Even though I loved being home with my babies, I still felt like something was missing. I needed to work. I worked for a non-profit for a while, but something was still missing.

Bryan and I had talked about wanting to farm over the years, but the timing never seemed right. Then, a little over a year ago, we took a leap of faith. I stepped away from my desk job and started reading and absorbing any and all information about starting a farm that I could get my hands on during what kid-free time I could find.

We started our first flower seeds in January of this year and I, quite instantaneously, found my joy.

Now, when I’m not talking about flowers, I’m thinking about them. The entire process, from planning the garden to watching the magic of our seeds growing into seedlings (or flower babies, as I call them) to planting them out in the garden and discovering the first blooms to harvesting, arranging and delivering our vibrant, fresh and pesticide-free flowers as blooming joy to you, brings me such immense joy. I now truly understand what it means to farm for joy.

As an added bonus, our younger children love working in the garden with us, our son loves growing carrots and our daughter loves growing daisies. It’s what we envisioned when we talked about farming years ago — A life centered on connecting with the earth, raising barefoot children, and making local, sustainably grown flowers easily accessible to our community.

And, therefore, the name could not be more fitting! Our mission is to make sustainably grown flowers easily accessible to local florists, local businesses and our local community, while also providing pesticide-free habitat to bees, butterflies, birds, and other important pollinators.

We are committed to keeping our flowers safe for you and your family, which is why we do not use chemical fertilizers or pesticides to grow our flowers and use organic seed and soil amendments when possible.

Thank you for being a part of our story!
